breathing vs 6 mile run

I'm getting over being sick.  I decided to push my 6 mile run from Saturday to Sunday.  My Friday night and Saturday consisted of laying on the couch and drinking Nyquil.

Since I was high on Nquil and Musinex I thought it smart to push the 6 mile run until Sunday.

Sunday rolls around and I'm feeling so much better than Friday and Saturday.  Yeah!!  No sinus headache, not coughing nearly as much.  Perfect day for a run.  I decide that since I'm not 100% I would head to the gym to eliminate the outside factor of the run.

I get to the gym and find my treadmill without any problem.  Sunday afternoon is not the high demand time at the gym.  I hop on and start to run.  I guess my lungs didn't feel like running 6 miles because a half mile was feeling really hard.  Turns out I forgot to ask my lungs if they were up for a run..turns out they were anti-running today.  I did 1 1/2 miles and then jumped on the bike.  I will try to run again on Monday after the teacher workday.  I guess breathing won over 6 miles today..we will see about tomorrow :)

5 miles on the mill and football too!

So I told myself all day long that I was going to go to the gym and run 5 miles.  At noon it was not looking too good for me.  I decided to take a brief nap thinking that I could recharge my battery and then go the gym.  Turned out I couldn't fall asleep.  My friend Kristi called to tell me that my niece Toria has been talking non-stop about Aunt Pam (I guess that means she wants a visit from Aunt Pam).  So I took that as a sign no nap and get my butt to the gym.

I got to the gym as the Ravens v Pats game was starting.  I love running and watching the game.  The only issue I had was sometimes when something happened during the game sometimes I would forget to keep running...not what you want to do on a treadmill.  Luckily this was not me:

Although at times I was very worried that the above picture could be me.  I was also a bit worried that I was going to freak the guy beside me out.  Every time a play would happen I would make sort of noise as I sucked in air.

So I completed my 5 miles and watched football at the same time.   This means I ran at the gym two days in a row!  That is a very good thing for me this month.

5K Twitter run!

Well today I completed my very first virtual race!  Megan passed along a virtual 5K that was taking place on Twitter.  I've never done a virtual race.  I got up this morning and thought I would head to the gym to race, but turned out I was feeling really lazy.  Seems I have been feeling really lazy a lot lately..time to get back to the running.  Anywho...I started reading a book and next thing I knew no run.  I then told myself that I would run in the afternoon, after a trip to see the movie Contraband with Marky Mark w/out the funky bunch.

Ah..Marky Mark...

Well after the movie I actually came back and got dressed and went to the gym to run my virtual 5K race.  It actually was a great run, not a lot of people at the gym.  I'm guessing the cold weather was keeping them away, which was fine with me!  Anyone else run a virtual race before?

1K winewalk race recap

It seems like I haven't blogged in January at all!  I guess that is because I haven't!  I'm not trying to ignore you all, I'm just trying to ignore running. :)  I did a few runs this month, but this week I need to attack my running calendar!

This weekend I participated in a very unique race..a 1K winewalk!  Yeah my kind of race!  I was a bit worried about this race because I really haven't been training that much. But luckily the race started in the afternoon so I spent most of the morning stretching and mentally preparing for this race. Nothing is worse than having a pulled hammy in the middle of a race!

The race took place at the shops at Crystal City..so weather would not be a factor in this race.  Since the organizer didn't want the large crush during the race we had to sign up for heats.  Our heat was scheduled to start at 3 pm.

Megan, Becky and myself grabbed our bib's, wine glass and twenty wine tasting tickets and we were off.  We had 10 rooms to visit, 20 wines to taste out of 40.  We realized right away that this was more of a marathon than a sprint..so we headed over to the first of 10 rooms and started tasting the wines.
The great thing about going with friends is that we would all get different wines and then pass around our glass to try everyone's pick.

We had some rooms that offered up some snacks.  So we sat down and enjoyed some pita and hummus.  The Cabot cheese was also very popular in room 6.

When we were in made it to room 10  we were treated to a DJ.  After a long 1K race, many people were in the mood to dance!  Go figure.  I also made friends with a husband and wife who were smart and brought some yummy salami and crackers with them lol.  I almost did a double take when I walked past them on the way to get some bread and cheese.  They were so nice they offered me some yummyness. :)

Stats:
distance:  1K
wine's tasted:  20 with multiple sips from friends' glasses
time:  3 1/2 hours
pace:  just right

Hello 2012!

Well my two races went well yesterday..more on that later :)  Just wanted to say Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope that this year brings more great things to each of you than 2011 did.

Since it is the New Year and people like to make resolutions...here is mine.
This year I am going to keep track of my mileage.  I'm going to finish strong on my 4 half marathons.  I'm also going to try to move everyday for at least 30 minutes.  That way I will have to do something easy on my rest days.  Hello walking!

Do you make resolutions?  If so what are your resolutions this year?
